FOCUS
ICNCLST partnered with The Bronx Museum of the Arts to celebrate FUTURA’s first major New York City retrospective, BREAKING OUT. The focus of the exhibition was to showcase the artist’s evolution over five decades, from his revolutionary graffiti origins to his contemporary abstract practice, while positioning him as a global creative force whose work bridges street culture, fine art, and design. The program aimed to reconnect FUTURA to his Bronx roots, amplify his cultural impact, and elevate the museum as a platform for accessible, community-centered, and forward-thinking art.
EXECUTION
ICNCLST worked closely with FUTURA and Eric Firestone Gallery to craft the exhibition narrative, highlighting key motifs such as the atom, linear rupture, and Pointman, and curated over fifty years of work including sculptures, prints, drawings, and site-specific installations. Collaborating with curators from the University at Buffalo Art Galleries and Bronx Museum staff, ICNCLST ensured the exhibition was both culturally resonant for the Bronx community and globally compelling for the art world. The agency also activated media and press partnerships, creating a strategic amplification plan that extended the exhibition’s reach beyond the museum walls.
IMPACT
ICNCLST also activated the exhibition through press, media partnerships, and creative amplification, elevating BREAKING OUT beyond the museum walls into a cultural event for New York City. The retrospective reinforced FUTURA’s legacy as a multi-generational cultural touchpoint, bridging street art and contemporary abstraction while celebrating the Bronx as a source of creative inspiration. The initiative also positioned the Bronx Museum as a leading platform for accessible and culturally resonant programming. Through strategic curatorial guidance, narrative framing, and cultural activation, ICNCLST helped make BREAKING OUT a defining moment in FUTURA’s career and a landmark exhibition for New York City’s creative community.
