Free Arts NYC Annual Art Auction - honoring Futura, presented by Marc Jacobs

On Wednesday, June 8, Free Arts NYC held its 23rd Annual Art Auction at The Altman Building in Chelsea, New York. Honoring legendary New York artist Futura, the evening was presented by his peer and fashion designer Marc Jacobs, and further supported by Supreme. As their largest, most impactful fundraising event, Free Arts NYC’s gala served as a meaningful bridge of exchange between the legacy and future of artists, rooted in a mission to empower youth in underserved communities through art and mentoring programs.

Free Arts NYC Founder Liz Hopfan gave a welcome back to the gala after a two year gap and announced an amazing new scholarship program in Futura’s honor, titled the The Futura for the Future Scholarship Fund. Liz expressed, “our goal is to give $1,000 every year to all eligible participants. In September we will have 50 young people in college.”

This was followed by a speech by Futura himself, “50 years ago to the year, I graduated high school in New York City, not far from here, trying to write my name on the wall thinking that I could get accepted into a bigger family of folks. I started this because I love communicating with people [through my art].”
