Jessy Nite Site-Specific Installation

Jessy Nite Site-Specific Installation

With the launch of their new flagship store in Miami in near sight, Nike approached ICNCLST in search of a local artist to create a site-specific installation inspired by Miami’s architectural design, vibrant aesthetic, and electric surroundings.

After a clear understanding of project details, ICNCLST began a search for the ideal artist; it didn’t take long before ICNCLST connected with Jessy Nite. Jessy’s work is best characterized by site specific, interactive works that present conceptual art — into public places. Her signature use of color and custom typography, crosses a variety of disciplines, and carries a playful but deeply rooted narrative.

Jessy’s colorful graphics and use of both 2D and 3D elements provided a beautiful aesthetic for the opening of Nike’s then-new Miami flagship store. Jessy’s piece was placed in a prominent position within the store’s entrance, displaying intriguing artwork for all passersby.

Ahead of the first El Clasico played on US soil, Neymar was engaged by Nike to make an appearance at the Nike Miami flagship — for the release of the Brazilian’s debut signature-edition Mercurial Vapor. The cleats’ design reinterpreted and presented the story of Neymar’s rise, and detailed his greatest goals for his various clubs and country. Fittingly, Neymar engaged with fans at Nike Miami, sharing some of those tales and insights with a collection of fans.

To this end, ICNCLST was hired by Nike to curate a site-specific installation to launch as a companion piece with this event, as well as collaborate with the same selected artist to create custom graphics and badges for custom Nike soccer jerseys. Miami-based artist ABSTRK was selected by ICNCLST to create the mural, and was also enlisted to design two Nike FANJAM kits, that were worn in a celebrity all-star soccer game — which included Drake and Lil Wayne.

ICNCLST was hired to curate a site-specific, almost photo-realist painting, of Roger Federer to surprise Roger during his appearance at the Nike Flagship Store in Miami to help roll out his newest collaborative effort with the Swoosh – the NikeCourt Vapor RF x Air Max 95 “Greedy”. ICNCLST selected MADSTEEZ to create the painting, and during the appearance, the artist and 20-time Grand Slam winner conducted a Q&A in front of a capacity crowd, discussing creativity and competition. Following the event, Roger purchased the painting for his home in Bottmingem, Switzerland.

To celebrate the launch of Rostarr’s collaborative collection with Nike Running, ICNCLST was hired by Nike to work with Rostarr to create a site-specific painting — inspired by the graphics featured on the artist’s apparel and footwear collection. The final work was installed at the elevator entrance of Nike Running’s dedicated retail floor in the Nike NYC SoHo flagship — which debuted at the official opening event for the retail door.

Occurring slightly after the opening of the Nike SoHo flagship, ICNCLST was hired to curate three artists for an immersive, product customization event — for general consumers and VIPs alike. Within this program, artists FUTURA, KRINK, and STASH ran footwear design sessions at the Nike “Makers Studio”, sharing design tips and stories with young creatives. Throughout a one week period, consumers were able to use selected handstyles, logo marks, and other illustrative icons curated from the artists that could then be laser-etched or printed atop Nike Air Force 1 sneakers. Additionally , KRINK was engaged to co-create the K-71 Ink and K-75 Paint Markers that customers were able to use to personalize their AF1s.
